2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Comes After Mixed Response
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure informed employees about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to address gamer demands.
Trend of Key Acquisitions
The news follows a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.
Below is the entire message from the president's communication:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the necessity for a sharper identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to achieve its potential to our players.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the new Lead of 31st Union. After some time of talks, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
Ben’s leadership and background in the competitive gaming field is vast, having spent the recent years creating and leading some of the most popular franchises in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to keep observing the evolution of the game in the time to follow.
David

He earlier worked at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had stints at other industry leaders.
Title Details and Vision
The upcoming game was revealed in last year alongside a community playtest. Then, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary reads. "Challenge the rivals with fresh skills, risks, and tests that change every session. Do you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, risk it all, and pray your group can earn top ranking? The option is in your hands."
The game lacks an announced debut schedule or consoles, but fans can expect further news as creation advances.
